Annual Wine Tasting - Can you spot English wines?

Wednesday 8 December 2010
1800 for 1830 start to wine tasting concluding at 20:30
London Capital Club, 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW

We are delighted that Julia Trustram-Eve has agreed to lead our annual wine tasting evening once again, and this year there is to be a quiz format for the evening. Teamwork will be encouraged! Julia will be challenging us to blind taste three groups of three wine styles: sparkling; white; red. Will we be able to identify the country or region? On the night we shall be working in teams to try and sniff out the quality English wines from amongst their international counterparts from more traditional wine growing parts of the world. Please come and join the fun.

October Event - Project success through BIM

A talk by
Tim Hare - Project Director, Sir Robert McAlpine

Grahame Andrews - Project Director, Waterman Structures Ltd.

"Delivering the promise of BIM"

Tuesday 12 October 2010, 1800 for 1830 start
London Capital Club, 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW

The Crown Estate Framework has led to the redevelopment of a number of buildings along Regent Street, with Waterman and Sir Robert McAlpine working in collaboration. On these redevelopments BIM has developed organically to assist coordination and deliver tangible benefits.

In the past, BIM has often focussed only on the initial design coordination phase. Constructing Excellence Demonstration Projects to date have outlined how success can be achieved. Real benefits can arise when the construction phase of a project also links in to the BIM interface.

BIM has been successfully used throughout the design and construction phase at Quadrant 3 (previously the Regent Palace Hotel and part of the Crown Estate). Grahame and Tim have a long track record of delivering major complex buildings in the City of London. They will outline the process adopted in the design and co-ordination of the project at both the initial design phase and during construction, linking through to sub-contractor co-ordination, to show how BIM can be used to great effect to achieve real collaborative success.

September Event - Never Waste a Good Crisis!

A talk by Don Ward
Chief Executive, Constructing Excellence

"A case for collaborative working with lean and efficient methods
as the best chance to thrive in tough times"

Tuesday 14 September 2010, 1800 for 1830 start
London Capital Club, 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW

We welcome Don Ward who will speak about the future of collaborative working. Drawing on the recent report “Never Waste a Good Crisis”, he will contrast ten years of progress in the industry with recent developments fuelled by the recession. This includes publicity surrounding a small number of high-profile clients, who have been reported as opting to “ditch frameworks” in favour of more competitive tendering. He will give a strong case for collaborative working and lean/efficient methods as the best chance to thrive in the tough times ahead.

Don is Chief Executive of Constructing Excellences, the main membership-led industry improvement body in the UK. He specialises in industry change, supply chain integration and collaborative working. He has over twenty years experience of best practice and change programmes. Don is one of the leading figures in the UK construction industry “reform movement”. Previous roles include Chief Executive of the Design Build Foundation and a five year stint as Chief Executive of the Construction Industry Board, which was set up to implement the 1994 “Latham Report”. His first ten years were spent at the Building Research Establishment working on low energy buildings.
